Everyone, regardless of their age or status will always enjoy that occasional bottle of red. So even better now that various studies and articles have shown that red wine does have a positive impact on our health. Here's four legitimate health benefits that red wine brings to the table when it's consumed in moderation!

1. Chasing Away The Blues

Multiple studies have shown that red wine on a daily basis decreases the risk of an adult developing depression. This is due to the antiflammatory properties that are present in this drink which helps to prevent inflammation from happening within the brain, thus preventing depression as inflammation is seen as a link to developing depressive behaviour in test subjects.

2. Fountain Of Youth (Almost)

It's no wonder that the glass of red gives us anti-aging properties when it's consumed. The skin from fermented grapes are the source of great and unique antioxidants such as flaranoid, resveratrol and tannin. These antioxidants help fight aging by restoring collagen and elastic fibers present in our skin. Consuming red wine in moderate amounts also helps in preventing break outs as well!

3. Aids In Weight Loss

Red wine actually helps those who are trying to lose weight as the drink suppresses your appetite and encourages the calorie burning process that occurs in our bodies. Again, this is credited to resveratrol, a property that is found in high levels in red wine. It converts your fats to a form called 'beige fat', which is an easier form to burn off compared to white fats present in the body.

4. Lowers 'Bad' Cholesterol Levels

'Bad' cholesterol is actually a reference to Low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Consuming red wine in moderation actually lowers your LDL levels and improves your HDL levels, which is referred to as 'good' cholesterol. Having low LDL levels decreases your risk to heart attacks and strokes.

So How Much Should I Really Drink?

The general consensus among studies is that red wine can be beneficial but only if it's consumed in moderation. According to studies, drinking in moderation means having about four to seven glasses per week. Recommended amounts for different genders are: a glass per day for women, and two glasses per day for men. If you are bummed out that the recommended intake is way too less for your liking, take this opportunity to socialise and share a bottle among cherished friends over a good dinner instead. After all, a bottle of red wine contains about five glasses worth of wine!
