If you’re like me and you believe in the art of leaving things to the last minute, you may not have realised that Father’s day is fast approaching. In fact, it’s on the 17th of June. Yes. That’s just next week.

But don’t panic.

If you don’t have a plan yet, we’ve totally got you covered with a list of the most quirky restaurants to take your dad to this Father’s Day. And the best part is, these restaurants look so cool that he’ll never guess that you pulled it together at the last minute.

1. Stewords Riverboat

My dad spent half his life on board a ship so everything related to the sea is really appealing to him. If your dad is like mine, he will really enjoy a special dinner at Stewords Riverboat. This boat, which houses two restaurants, is docked at Marina South Pier and looks like it came right out of a Mark Twain novel.

The Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill, which is on the lower deck, serves authentic Texan-Mexican food such as turkey quesadillas, nachos, fajitas, BBQ baby back ribs and ribeye steaks.

If that isn’t a cuisine that particularly appeals to you, you could always head up to the upper deck of the riverboat where Wood & Steel Gastrobar operates. The restaurant offers alfresco dining with a gorgeous view of the sea.

As for dining options, Wood & Steel Gastrobar serves up dishes such as pasta, fries and a wide variety of cocktails. Perfect for a unique and cosy family meal!

2. Prawning @ ORTO

You may think that catching and cooking your own food was an experience that died with urbanisation but take a trip down memory lane with dad by catching and cooking your own prawns at this restaurant.

At ORTO, you can let dad have a relaxing day sitting by one of the establishment’s 10 ponds and catching as many prawns as you can. It’s a great family activity as it is lots of fun and creates a great opportunity for bonding.

If you’ve never done this before, don’t worry because the staff provides everything you need which ensures that you will have a fuss free time.

ORTO also provides electric grills for you to grill and eat your catch at no extra cost!

If you’re looking for something a bit classier and are willing to spend a bit more, you could consider bringing your dad to Southeast Asia’s only underwater aquarium restaurant.

Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora is located at Resort World Sentosa’s S.E.A. Aquarium and gives diners the opportunity to dine with an array of fish and stingray.

Featuring a floor to celling glass aquarium, diners can enjoy delicious 3, 4, 6 or 8 course meals prepared by world-renowned chef Cat Cora who specialises in the Mediterranean-Californian cuisine that is served here.

4. Tongkang Riverboat Dining

Similar to Stewords Riverboat, Tongkang Riverboat Dining gives customers a truly unique experience by allowing them to dine onboard one of the last two remaining Tonkangs in Singapore.

Tonkangs are boats that used to trawl the Singapore River before the big cleanup. They were used to carry goods and would be prominent in the minds of most parents and grandparents who would have grown up with them.

The restaurant serves up soups, salad, pastas and marinated meat which would likely appeal to the whole family.

5. Sushi Airways

If your dad is a fan of Japanese food and loves travelling, this one is for him. Housed in an aircraft -themed restuarant, customers will be treated to an extremely unique experience.

Dine in a restaurant set up to look like the cabin of a plane and be served by waitress who are dressed as air stewards. The experience is made complete with boarding pass name cards, overhead compartments and aeroplane windows.

The food served here is far from you traditional airplane food. Sushi Airways is helmed by Chef Chee Long  who was a former chef at Mikuni at the Fairmont. He uses fresh seafood that is flown in straight from Japan and turns them into masterpieces. Don't forget to book this experiance a day in advance though.
